The coastal town of Ogunquit, Maine is a quintessential seaside community, attracting visitors to sunbathe on the beach by day and stroll around town in the evening – shopping at local gift shops and enjoying lobster rolls and other coastal delicacies. Ogunquit should definitely be added to your list of East Coast vacation destinations. If you’re looking for a place to stay, the Meadowmere Resort in Maine is a great family-friendly resort in a prime location.
The Meadowmere Resort is located right in Ogunquit, on Route 1/Main Street. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the center of town and Ogunquit Beach, and about a 20-minute walk to Perkins Cove. The Ogunquit Playhouse is also just a short walk from the resort. There are a number of shops and restaurants within walking distance.
The hotel offers free parking for those who book directly with the hotel, and with the traffic and parking limitations in town, leaving your car at the hotel is a good idea. The Meadowmere Resort is conveniently located on the southern Maine coast, close to Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth, NH. It’s a little over an hour’s drive from Boston and five hours from New York City. If you’re visiting the Boston area, this is a location you could easily add to your travel plans for a night or two.
If you don’t want to drive everywhere, there is the Ogunquit Trolley, with a stop right at the resort. The trolley also stops at many popular locations in town. These trolleys run seasonally and are independent of the resort but can be an easy and convenient way to get around without worrying about parking. You can also take the Amtrak Downeaster train to nearby Wells Maine and find transportation from Wells to Ogunquit without needing to rent a car.
The Meadowmere Resort offers a variety of room options, including some that are truly perfect for families. There are five different buildings, including the Main Building, the East Meadow Building, the West Meadow Building, and the South Meadow Building. The Country Squire building is open seasonally and is motel-style (with exterior entrances rather than interior hallways). It is available for booking from May through October each year, which is when most tourists visit the area.
Room types at the Meadowmere include: Resort Rooms are standard hotel rooms with free WiFi and a private balcony or patio. These rooms are offered with one king bed, two double beds, or two queen beds. Country Squire rooms have similar configurations, but there is no balcony/patio and they are not attached to the main building. The Country Squire rooms also have exterior motel-style entrances, rather than interior hallways.
Family suites are a great option for families who need extra living space. These rooms have a common entryway with two separate bedrooms. Within the suite, one of the rooms has two double beds and one room has two twin beds. Each room features a TV with cable, a bathroom and a refrigerator.
In addition to the standard rooms and family suites, the resort also offers luxury suites with a jacuzzi/fireplace or both. There are also honeymoon suites and ADA suites available. Rooms do not have coffee makers, but complimentary coffee is available all day in the hotel lobby (along with flavored water).
The location and proximity to Ogunquit activities are a huge benefit to staying at the Meadowmere. However, when you’re at the resort, there’s plenty to enjoy right there – especially for families. So, you won’t really have to go far to start enjoying your vacation.
A game room at the resort offers air hockey and video games. You can also rent controllers for the video games. If you want to get out of the sun for a while, the on-site movie theater offers showings of popular family movies regularly. Sometimes there are R-rated movies shown in the evenings. The movie schedule is listed at the front desk, so you can plan around it.
The Meadowmere Resort offers both indoor and outdoor pools. The outdoor pool, located adjacent to the West Meadow Pub, is open seasonally. There are chairs and tables surrounding the pool, so you can relax while the kids swim. Food and drink service from the pub is available. If the weather isn’t cooperating, there is also an indoor pool located near the front lobby. There is plenty of seating surrounding that pool as well.
A favorite amenity at the resort is the Roman Spa, an indoor spa with warm water and small waterfalls. The Meadowmere also offers an outdoor hot tub located right near the indoor pool. Towels for both the pools and hot tub can be picked up in the lobby of the resort before you head to the pool. There are towel bins by the pool where you can drop off your used towels. If you are looking to get some exercise on your vacation, there is also a fitness center on-site. The entire Ogunquit area is also a great place to go for a walk or a run.
There are plenty of restaurants located very close to the hotel. The resort provides a book filled with menus from local places. The staff at the resort is also very helpful in providing directions. During peak season, you may want to check if the restaurant you choose accepts reservations in advance.
The Meadowmere Ogunquit has its own pub with a full bar right on site. The pub is open all day from mid-June to early September and serves dinner on weekends during the rest of the year. Be sure to check their website for the most up-to-date hours during your visit, as they are sure to change. If you’re at the outdoor pool, you can also get food and drinks from the pub.
