Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is a story of resilience, a Sleeping Beauty awakening to reveal stunning natural splendor. This breathtaking resort served as the backdrop for the romantic finale of Australia’s The Bachelorette, solidifying its position as one of Fiji’s rising stars, especially given its challenging journey to success.
Thirteen years ago, a deal was signed to build one of Fiji’s finest resorts; the first overwater bungalow resort on the mainland. With an impressive design centered around a man-made lagoon, the 250-room resort would offer almost every guest ocean views. It would boast multiple fine-dining restaurants, cafes, a bakery, a day spa, three swimming pools, and its own white-sand beach.
However, disaster struck when New Zealand finance company Bridgecorp collapsed. Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay was Bridgecorp’s largest Fiji real estate project. For a decade, the half-built resort lay dormant in a muddy, unfilled lagoon; a symbol of broken promises, failed government investment, and poor management.
Today, from a contemporary lagoon-side room, with natural materials and Fijian patterns offset by crisp white, guests can gaze upon picture-perfect scenery reminiscent of Tahiti or the Maldives. Across a stretch of pristine white sand fringed with palms lies the shimmering lagoon, where 22 luxurious overwater bure bungalows (adults only) stretch out beneath sunny skies.
On the safely sheltered beach, children can play, collect shells, and hunt for hermit crabs. Guests staying in the overwater bungalows can snorkel straight off their decks. Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is truly one of Fiji’s most remarkable comeback stories, a luxurious haven ideal for both families and couples.
